What is Massage?

Many people have experienced the benefits of massage for themselves and, increasingly, people are beginning to recognize those same benefits of massage for animals.  Not only is it something that feels good but massage can also address a variety of physical and emotional problems.  The following are some benefits of massage:

-         Increases range of motion and blood circulation (increased oxygenation of the blood can enhance performance and reduce recuperation time in sporting animals and after surgery)

-         Relieves pain through endorphin release

-         Helps to release lactic acid and reduce soreness for active or sporting animals

-         Relieves anxiety (including separation anxiety), depression, and grief

-         Brings awareness to parts of the body that have been forgotten

-         Promotes general well-being

We combine traditional sports and therapeutic massage with acupressure techniques to achieve the best possible results for your animal.  Acupressure is a part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and follows 3000 year old principles of balancing the yin and yang of the body with its environment.  There are twelve different energy meridians that run throughout the body and two different energy vessels.  The goal of acupressure is to help the animal to balance its own energy through point work on these different meridians and vessels.

What is an Essential Oil?

An essential oil is a highly concentrated natural plant extract in the form of an aromatic liquid.  When essential oils are used, the aromatic molecules of the oils are absorbed into the blood stream and transported to the limbic system.  The limbic system is the processing center for reason, emotion, and smell and can thus trigger an emotional release.  Although there are three different grades of essential oils only the top grade, therapeutic grade, has healing properties.  We utilize organic therapeutic grade essential oils in our practice for massage and aromatic inhalation.
